Small business, big picture - this is what Lendified is all about. Our passion is to support the economic engine of our country: Canadian small businesses. We understand gaining access to short-term small business loans can be difficult and time-consuming, and that’s why we’re here; our goal as a financial services company is to be a critical partner for small businesses from coast to coast to coast.
One such story is that of The Rugged Rooster, a family business located in a small farm on Campbell River, BC, owned and operated by Glen and Jessica Morris. The Rugged Rooster specializes in beautiful, custom, handmade furniture.
We recently reached out to Glen and Jessica to learn more about their small business challenges, advice, and how Lendified’s small business loan has helped them.
Lendified: As a small business, what are some of your biggest challenges?
Glen & Jessica Morris (G&J): One of our biggest challenges to date is balancing it all. It's only the two of us; my husband and myself. So keeping on top of all the orders, custom service, continually innovating ourselves and our home life. I'm sure you learn how to balance it all eventually and we're in progress of learning that.
Lendified: When did you start The Rugged Rooster? What is something you know today that you wish you had known back then?
G&J: We started our company to help make ends meet in the summer of 2012. But I wish I could tell our old selves to not sweat the small stuff. I'm a people pleaser and I like to bend over backwards to make even the pickiest person happy. If I could go back in time and tell myself to relax and say no once in a while.
Lendified: What resources or supports have been instrumental in your success?
G&J: Facebook Marketing. I know this sounds ridiculous - but as soon as we stopped marketing elsewhere our success went through the roof! Everyone uses facebook right? So why not use it as a platform to shoot your marketing through the roof. Best yet, it's cheaper than most other outlets. You can spend a little as 2.00 a day!
Lendified: What advice would you offer other small business owners and entrepreneurs?
G&J: Go hard, but don't lose yourself in the process.
Lendified: Looking at the bigger picture, where do you see your business in 5 years?
G&J: I'm hoping to have a storefront. We are slowly moving out of custom building to staging. In five years I Hope to integrate my interior design and my husband builds into a storefront.
Lendified: How has Lendified supported your small business? Can you share with us how you used your small business loan? E.g. Growth or expansion, hiring staff, consolidating debt or special projects?
G&J: When the banks wouldn't approve us as we were such a young business, Lendified did! We're forever grateful for the support of this company and believing in us! That money went to so many things, I'm sure we will use Lendified again in the future!
